Advanced Cardiac Procedures

Expert diagnostic and interventional catheter-based treatments for pediatric heart conditions, offering minimally invasive alternatives when appropriate.

Please Note: This website provides educational information. Procedure suitability depends entirely on a child's unique anatomy, clinical findings, and a thorough specialist assessment.

Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization

What is it?

A minimally invasive procedure where a thin, flexible tube (catheter) is guided through a blood vessel to the heart.

Why is it considered?

Used to accurately measure blood pressure and oxygen levels in the heart chambers, and to visualize the anatomy to plan complex surgeries or interventions.

Discussion with doctor: Parents should discuss specific risks, recovery times, and alternative options during their consultation.

ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) Device Closure

What is it?

A catheter-based procedure to place a specialized device that plugs the hole (defect) between the upper chambers of the heart.

Why is it considered?

To prevent abnormal blood flow between chambers, reducing the risk of heart failure, arrhythmias, and pulmonary hypertension in the future.

Discussion with doctor: Parents should discuss specific risks, recovery times, and alternative options during their consultation.

VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) Device Closure

What is it?

Non-surgical closure of a hole between the lower pumping chambers of the heart using a specialized closure device delivered via a catheter.

Why is it considered?

Selected suitable VSDs can be closed without open-heart surgery, preventing pulmonary overcirculation and heart muscle strain.

Discussion with doctor: Parents should discuss specific risks, recovery times, and alternative options during their consultation.

PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) Closure

What is it?

The use of a coil or device placed via catheter to close an unclosed blood vessel that normally closes shortly after birth.

Why is it considered?

To prevent excess blood flow to the lungs and reduce the risk of heart failure and endocarditis.

Discussion with doctor: Parents should discuss specific risks, recovery times, and alternative options during their consultation.

Balloon Valvuloplasty & Angioplasty

What is it?

A procedure using a catheter with a small balloon at the tip. The balloon is inflated to stretch open a narrowed heart valve (valvuloplasty) or a narrowed blood vessel (angioplasty).

Why is it considered?

Effectively treats conditions like pulmonary valve stenosis or aortic stenosis without the need for open-heart surgery.

Discussion with doctor: Parents should discuss specific risks, recovery times, and alternative options during their consultation.

Hospital-Based Care

While all initial consultations and diagnostic imaging (like Echocardiograms) are performed comfortably at VEGA CURRE Multispeciality Clinic, all advanced diagnostic catheterizations and interventional procedures are performed exclusively in advanced, affiliated hospital settings equipped with specialized pediatric cardiac intensive care support.
